Dr. Michael MacPherson’s diverse background spans college athletics, education, coaching, and surgical consulting—giving him a unique perspective on human performance, rehabilitation, and recovery.

His passion for health and training began as a collegiate football player at Michigan Technological University. After his playing career, he transitioned into strength and conditioning, first coaching at Michigan Tech and then at the University of Toledo. He spent the next decade teaching and coaching at the high school level, where he developed a speed and strength program that grew from serving high school athletes to including middle and elementary school students. During this time, he also began virtual training, programming, and consulting for various teams and athletes.

After 10 years in the weight room, Dr. MacPherson shifted his focus to sports medicine, working as a surgical consultant in the operating room. This role allowed him to observe procedures such as ACL reconstructions, meniscus repairs, rotator cuff repairs, femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) corrections, and lateral ankle reconstructions. Witnessing these surgeries firsthand, he constantly considered the best rehabilitation strategies tailored to each procedure and graft type.

It was in the operating room that he discovered Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training. Once he understood its benefits, there was no turning back. He joined Suji and has since helped educate thousands of athletic trainers, physical therapists, and strength coaches on the science and application of BFR. Recognizing that a lack of education was a major barrier preventing many from utilizing BFR, he immersed himself in research and education.

Dr. MacPherson has worked with individuals across the lifespan, from children as young as three to adults in their nineties. His mission is to bridge the gap between science and practice, making BFR accessible to athletes, patients, and professionals alike.
